What is a virtual sound bath, the benefits, and how to prepare for one?

What is a virtual sound bath?

If you are one of many experiencing anxieties, stressors, fears, and a sense of uneasiness during these trying times, it might be time to book yourself a sound bath. Suppose we, as human beings, do not take care of ourselves regularly when we are or are about to experience such feelings. In that case, eventually, our body will face long-term effects specific to our immune and nervous systems.

The great thing about sound healing is that it is about presence, allowing, being, and listening meaning, you could be in any given place to experience the effects of a virtual sound bath. As you listen to the sounds and experience frequencies, the body enters its natural healing system to regulate the body, allowing it to self-heal.

The benefits of experiencing a sound bath virtually

Although initially, one might think you should experience a sound bath in a studio, there are several benefits to participating in one from the comfort of your own home.

A few benefits that come to mind are:

  • No anxious feelings of what to expect, the constant worry that you might be doing it wrong or maybe judged (which, by the way, is not possible)

  • Comfort of your home, you can crawl into your fuzzy blankets and fresh sheets while you experience your sound bath, maybe even take a quick nap (it is normal to fall asleep during a session)

  • You can experience and express all emotions as they come without feeling self-conscious or disruptive

  • Ability to create a warm space with all the candles, twinkle lights, pillows, and pets you’d like

  • It is a great excuse to escape the chaos of home, shut the bedroom door, unwind, and return to your home feeling refreshed and rejuvenated

How to prepare for a virtual sound bath

The great thing about a virtual sound bath is that you are the creator of your space and environment in which you get to experience the session. I have gathered a few recommendations below for getting prepared for your virtual sound bath:

  • Set the mood - dim the lights, hang twinkle lights if you feel inclined, light candles, and gather all the fluffy blankets and pillows. Get cosy.

  • Turn off all distractions – ensure your phone is off, doors are locked, and any other devices are disabled not to disrupt you throughout your session.

  • Be sure to show up with an open mind and heart – each experience will be different; allow your body to be present, surrender and allow the flow to happen.

After you experience a session, be sure to consume tons of water, ground yourself, and take some time to sit in your thoughts, journal, or take a hot bath. And, of course, be sure to share your experience with friends and family.
